Dear Colleague,
It is our great personal privilege and pleasure, as Conference Chairmen, to inform you about the International Conference
"Frontiers of Nonlinear Physics" and to invite you to attend it and to make it a great scientific
event. The Conference will be held on board a comfortable boat cruising from Nizhny Novgorod up the Volga river and further to St.-Petersburg from July 5 through July 12, 2004
(the last date can be slightly shifted).
The Conference will be devoted to recent progress in the interrelated fields of nonlinear dynamics with applications to physical systems of different
origins. The scope of the Conference is state-of-the-art and advance in the fields of top
interest, ranging from nonlinearities in fusion plasma and astrophysical objects to nonlinear phenomena in the upper
ocean, in particular. We hope that such a wide scope and informal atmosphere of the river cruise will stimulate active discussions and links between scholars and will attract young researchers to this promising field of modern
science. This is really our key goal and intrinsic stimulus to hold the
meeting.
We also schedule a special program of sightseeing in Russian historical centers on the cruise route and a set of social
events. The prospective boat is a comfortable 4-deck river liner, and the route itself is planned to be very
interesting, along the upper Volga to the Russian North (Onega and Ladoga
lakes) and further along the Neva river to St.-Petersburg. This could be a unique occasion for many participants to get familiar with
both, the Russian history and nature.
We regard this meeting as a continuation of the Topical Conference
"Frontiers of Nonlinear Physics" which was held in Nizhny Novgorod in July 2001 under the umbrella of the
International Conference
"Progress in Nonlinear Science" dedicated to the 100-th anniversary of Alexander A.
Andronov, and which attracted leading experts from all over the world. Now we intend to establish a regular meeting in this field that is to be held once in three
years. Another essential background of our forthcoming conference is the International Workshop
"Solitons, Collapses and Turbulence" which was held at the Landau Institute for Theoretical
Physics, RAS in 1999 and 2002 and also attracted many scholars renowned in the nonlinear
community. Now two leading RAS institutions, namely, the Institute of Applied
Physics, Nizhny Novgorod, and the Landau Institute for Theoretical
Physics, Moscow, have decided to combine their efforts in organization of this
meeting.
If you don't reject in general an opportunity to take part in the Conference
and if it does not interfere with your schedule for the next year, please fill in and return to us the enclosed
Registration Form.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Conference next July.
